IRES
(Instituto di Ricerche Economiche e Sociali), an Economic and Social Research
Institute, founded in 1979 by CGIL, is today a non-profit association that
conducts economic and social research.
Given that IRES has always been interested in developing a dynamic link between theory and research-action, the scientific and trade union worlds, it has targeted its studies on issues related to labour, economy and the changing society.
The complexity and scope of the research dealt with by IRES, made it necessary to divide the institute into various research areas and observatories with different tasks and objectives.
The areas examine and interpret the most important and current aspects of their reference issues, forming the backbone of the institute’s activities (see the organisation chart) managed by internal staff members. However consultants and external researchers are also involved in specific projects.
The areas are as follows:
The observatories continually monitor the following social economic phenomena:
IRES also has its own Documentation Centre and a computerised system of working, filing and processing data.
The aims of the institute are as follows:
IRES has its own web-site (www.ires.it) containing detailed and updated information on the institute and its activities.
IRES’s activity is supported by a Scientific Committee and administrated by a Directive Committee.
The President of IRES is Agostino Megale, its Director is Giovanna Altieri.
