Research is being conducted into the issues involved in discrimination and into trade union policies and practical responses in comparable sectors in the five partner countries of UK, Belgium, France, Italy and Bulgaria (links are to research overviews).
We are using the same criteria in each country in deciding upon the case study areas and are everywhere adopting the same methodologies, with common interview schedules and qualitative computer data analysis software.

The UK research will be carried out in three industrial sectors: health care, public transport and retail distribution, all of which employ significant numbers of black and ethnic minority workers.

The French research will be carried out in three industrial sectors: health care, public transport and retail distribution, all of which employ significant numbers of black and ethnic minority workers.
In Italy because only healthcare is a significant employer of minority workers the researchers will add other sectors with large minority workforces and which also have unions present.
